Why AELS Requires You to Sign Up for Quarters instead of Months?

Plenty of other language schools let students enroll whenever they want for however long they desire. They can enroll for 4 weeks, 8 weeks, or 10 weeks with no problems. However, at American English Language School, each level of our ESL program is 3 months, so the minimum amount of time students can study is 3 months. Are you wondering why you must study for a minimum of 3 months?   First, when students enroll in an ESL program, they tend to be shy or embarrassed to participate during the class. If students don’t participate, it prevents them from improving. In order to help students improve as much as possible, each level of our ESL course is 3 months long. During the first week of classes, teachers and students work on getting to know each other. Students work on introducing each other and learning about their fellow students. They also do some ice breakers to feel more comfortable with each other. We do this to make students feel more comfortable participating in the cla...

Study at American English Language School!

American English Language School is proud to announce that our next quarter is starting in October! Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, not many people have been able to practice their English as often. Social distancing has not let people interact with others as easily, so it may have delayed your English learning. Fortunately, our ESL program can help! At American English Language School, we keep our ESL classes to a maximum of 6 students . We keep our ESL classes to a minimum of 6 students so we can maximize your English learning experience. When teachers have 10-15 students, it makes it difficult for them to frequently give attention to every one of their students. At AELS, teachers will never have more than 6 students, so it is easy for them to observe and provide feedback to all of their students. Furthermore, with only 5 other classmates, it makes it easier for you to ask questions to your teacher. Are you interested, but not sure how to apply? The first thing that you need to d...

Culture Week

The 12th week of each quarter is always our ‘Culture Week.’ Culture week is the last week of each quarter and is a fun and interesting way for students to learn about American culture through real experiences rather than learning from a textbook. It is also a great way to test yourself to see if you can function in normal everyday situations outside of the classroom. While in our ESL program, you will have plenty of opportunities to practice speaking and listening inside of the classroom. However, a lot of students tell us that they do not get to practice speaking English anywhere else. This is an important reason why we created culture week. Culture week is a fun way for students to practice their English outside of the classroom while getting to have fun with their classmates and teacher. This past culture week, students started the week by watching a movie together. Afterward, they discussed their thoughts on the movie with the class. Students also had a game day where they played...

Here are a few words and phrases to use to better express your emotions.   Excited- -          Flying high: very happy -          To be pumped: very excited for something coming -          Over the moon: very excited -          On cloud nine: feeling complete happiness -          Jump for joy: so h...

Photography

One of the topics that students went over last week was photography and taking pictures. Some people enjoy taking pictures, while others do not. One of the questions asked was whether you liked to be in front of the camera or to be the one taking the pictures instead. Of course, students had different opinions on the subject. Students started the class discussion by asking each other whether they like to have their pictures taken by others or not. Students also practiced paraphrasing other students’ responses. A new vocabulary word that students learned was photogenic.   Photogenic is an adjective used to describe someone who looks attractive in photographs. Some people who think they are photogenic tend to think they look better in pictures than in person. Do you know someone who is photogenic? Another new word students learned was photographic. Photographic is an adjective to describe something that is related to art or photography. The two words are very similar in spelling ...

Healthy and Unhealthy Health Habits

Did you know there are two different types of health? There’s physical health—health related to your body, both fitness and nutrition, and then there’s mental health—health related to your mind and psychological well-being. What are some ways to make sure that you are healthy both physically and mentally? Our students like to go for walks and ride their bikes to be physically fit while spending time with their friends and family helps to maintain their mental health.   Last week, students in our ESL program learned all about health. Students started learning by studying vocabulary related to the different types of doctors and what they do. They created questions that various types of doctors would ask about their health habits and symptoms, and students discussed how to describe different possible symptoms. Students also discussed their own healthy and unhealthy habits. Some common healthy behaviors students mentioned were getting enough sleep, drinking a lot of water, walking...
