In Person Vs. Online English Classes

With many language schools in the world offering online classes, many students are able to learn and improve their English from the comfort of their homes. While online classes have the benefits of comfort and flexibility, there are more advantages of in-person classes than online classes. At American English Language School in Los Angeles, our mission is to provide the highest quality English-language learning experience for students who want either conversational or academic proficiency in order to live, work, or study in an English-speaking environment. That is why we offer in-person classes only. Keep reading to learn why in-person classes are more beneficial than online classes to improve your English.

First, being in the physical classroom with a teacher allows teachers to be able to provide more personal attention to each of their students. Furthermore, since our ESL classes are smaller classes (average 4-5 students), you will be able to ask questions, get immediate feedback, and work together with other students to complete tasks. Additionally, online classes make it easy for shy students to hide and not participate, which can hinder their English learning. Being in the classroom helps students to build their confidence and feel more confident speaking.

Second, at AELS, we believe immersion is an important aspect of learning English. Being in the physical classroom exposes students to the language of culture daily rather than simply listening to the teacher on the computer screen. The classroom allows students to talk with native speakers and learn more about their culture.

Lastly, being in the classroom with your teacher and fellow students allows more personal connections. While behind the screen, it may be hard for teachers to interact with all of their students and really get to know them. Students are able to communicate more freely with their teachers when they are in the classroom and with their fellow classmates. Additionally, since our ESL classes have a smaller class size than other language schools, students quickly get comfortable with their teachers and peers than they would be able to communicating through the computer.

So while many students may look for the convenience of online classes, if you are interested in improving your English reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills, the best way is through in person classes. Through directly communicating with your teachers and fellow students, you will be able to improve your English quicker than online classes.
