Another great way to study English and learn more about American culture is to watch American television. Here is a list of American television shows that are entertaining and will help you learn English through multiple environments.

1.    Scrubs

Scrubs is a medical comedy that premiered on American television in 2001. The show centers around the fictional hospital of Sacred Heart and follows three residents as they prosper from first year residents out of medical school to full- fledged doctors in their final season.

This show is a great way to learn medical vocabulary because it is one of the most accurately researched show on medical words and diseases due to a real doctor collaborating with the script for all the seasons of the show. This show is not only very funny, but it shows very deep and stressful issues concerning patients and doctors in a hospital as well.

2.    Shameless

Shameless is an American drama that premiered on American television in 2011. This shows centers around the Gallagher family living in the poor side of the Chicago area. The drama shows a very different and gritty family dynamic than any other show on television. There are funny moments as well as very real and emotional ones.

This show is a great way to learn the culture of the modern American family and learn about different aspects of the rough side of American life.

3.    The Office

This NBC show premiered on American television in 2005 and went on for 9 seasons. This comedic show centers around the employees of a paper company located in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The show is filmed like a documentary which is called a “mockumentary” that sees all the ins and outs of how a paper company is run.

This show is a great way to learn on the job vocabulary and to see how corporate America is run and how it operates.

Any of these shows is a great choice to get into American culture, learn some new vocabulary and conversational English, and have fun while doing it!
